LOA and Christianity...my personal opinion
"When you pray and ask for something, believe that you have received it, and you will
be given whatever you ask for." Mark 11:24
"Ask, and you will receive, seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened
to you. For everyone who asks will receive, and anyone who seeks will find, and the
door will be opened to him who knocks." Matthew 6:7-8
"If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer". Matthew 21:22
"Until now you have not asked for anything in my name; ask and you will receive, so
that your happiness may be complete". John 16:24
I understand that we have all been given free will. This to me, means that one is FREE to
do WHAT one wills, HOW one wills, WHEN one wills and WHY one wills. This also means
that no restrictions are placed on us - in other words, there are no "shoulds", or "musts".
Having said that, we have to take the consequences of being given free will. Since we can
choose to do what we want, whether for our betterment or destruction, either
individually or as a society, we alone are responsible for what we see around us.
Questions such as "How did God allow this to happen", or "Where is God when things like
this happen" become irrelevant.
God gave us free will and keeps His word. God is Love and a being of infinite wisdom, far
beyond our finite understanding in our physical dimension with our limited intelligence.
However, the spiritual dimension of ourselves knows that there is God. People sometimes
are more comfortable referring to God as Higher Self, the Universe, the Source, etc.
Going back to the "How did God allow this to happen" question, God knows that we in our
physical dimensions will mess up. But, he continues to keep His word. He does not come
in to SAVE THE DAY, unless he is invited. That is what free will means.
The good news is that free will also allows us to ask for help from God anytime that we
wish to add His wisdom/ love to our lives. That is what the verses here refer to. However,
God will come in only when we ask Him to, not until then. Once he is asked, though, we
can be confident that what we have asked Him for, we will receive. He has said this
Himself.
There are no exceptions to this rule. We impose those restrictions on ourselves. The
challenge we have is within our ego - the part of us that first refuses to ask. We struggle
to do it ourselves. We take pride in struggling to achieve our goals. When we finally
realize that we cannot do it on our own, we then ask. Many times, however, we ask with
doubt and fear. We need to ask with faith, total and complete faith.
So Jesus answered her, "You are a woman of great faith! What you want will be done
for you." Matthew 16:28
The disciples came to Jesus and asked Him, "Why couldn't we drive the demon out?" "It
was because you haven't enough faith", answered Jesus. "I assure you that if you have
faith as big as a mustard seed, you can say to this hill, "Go from here to there!; and it
will go. You could do anything." Matthew 18:20
God loves child-like faith. When children ask for what they want, they usually ask for it
with glee and anticipation. They have full confidence that they will be given what they
want, in due time. And they go about whatever they were doing, with no doubt or fear
that what they want will not happen. As children grow, though, adults impose their
beliefs of "some things are not meant to happen", "we are not good enough", "We are not
rich enough"....you know what I mean. The child slowly learns to be watchful,
non-trusting and loses that inherent connection with God. God becomes separate from
the individual, and it takes a lifetime to re-establish that bond, that always was and is.
I have heard people say - Oh well, if God wills it...as in the Lord's Prayer...we say "Thy
will be done, on earth as in heaven". However, Jesus also says "And so I tell all of you:
what you prohibit on earth will be prohibited in heaven, and what you permit on earth
will be permitted in heaven. And I tell you more: whenever two of you on earth agree
about anything you pray for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven.; For when
two or three come together in my name, I am there with them." Matthew 18:18-19
To me, it means that heaven and earth are within me, just as God is. If what is in heaven
is on earth, and what is on earth is in heaven, must they not be one and the same? If I am
one with God and God is in me, then do I not belong to God? Does not every human being
that ever was, is and will be also follow this? I believe that I am a spiritual being manifest
in a physical body.
"I have come in order that you might have life-life in all its fullness." John 10:10
Remember that the person who sows few seeds will have a small crop; the one who
sows many seeds will have a large crop. Each one, should give, then, as he has decided,
not with regret or out of a sense of duty; for God loves the one who gives gladly. And
God is able to give you more than you need, so that you will always have all you need
for yourselves and more than enough for every good cause. - 2 Corinthians 10
Abundance is God-given. I believe that we are meant to live lives of abundance, not to be
confused with greed. True abundance means having enough to share in joy. We do not
believe that us being sick will give another more health, do we? Or us having a joyful
experience will deprive another of joy? Of course not. There is enough to go around.
However, some of us believe that asking for material wealth will deprive another or make
us "bad" in some way.
What is the point of being spiritually rich, but so sick or poor that you cannot spread the
Good News? What is the point of being financially well off, but not enjoy good health?
I firmly believe that God wants us to be abundant in all areas of our life so that in our
abundant state, we enable the same with another. When I have enough, I will give,
because I know that my needs and desires are more than met - I have faith in God that I
will be provided for. We are meant to have as much health, wealth and happiness that we
desire. All we have to do is ask, believe and receive. God, who is all-loving, will not hold
back anything from us.
My purpose in receiving will be to give. It is in giving that we receive. As in the Law of
attraction, we get what we give (vibrationally), but we are talking about the same
principle here. You reap what you sow - says the same thing. You can only GET when and
what you GIVE.
Give money away to ensure that you will always be financially provided for.
Be joyful and happy to receive joy and happiness.
Take care of yourself so that you can enjoy good health.
The commandment - Love your neighbour as yourself - points to this. You cannot look
after another unless you are healthy enough or wealthy enough or happy enough.
Oddly enough, after years of science and spirituality being seen as diametrically opposed,
we now see that Quantum Physics that proves the scientific aspect of the Law of
Attraction is nothing but the application of the same principles in the Religious books.
This makes me, a spiritual person, feel comfortable, in promoting this principle, to raise
awareness and improve our planet, one person at a time.
